Iditarow

IDITAROW 2012 to begin March 4

Participants in the 2012 Iditarow will row on an erg (that's an indoor rowing machine) in an attempt to cover the 1112 miles to Nome before the winning Iditarod dog team crosses the finish line. Hosted at the Rez, the Iditarow is a fundraiser for the Kenai Crewsers Rowing Club, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Registration will open soon, and from this website, you will be able to download the registration brochure, event rules for onsite and satellite teams, and the promotional poster to help recruit teammates. The early entrance fee is $25 for each team member if you register by the early registration deadline Monday February 27th, and $35 for each team member after the early registration deadline. All proceeds benefit the Crewsers.

Contact iditarow@gmail.com with any questions about the 2012 Iditarow.

We celebrate both team and individual accomplishments; but the real race is between us, the rowers collectively, and the Iditarod dog teams. We convert meters rowed to miles and track our daily progress against the leading Iditarod dog team. The “Iditarow” begins on Sunday, March 4th at 2pm and will end when the first team (human or dog) crosses the finish line at Nome.

Each team member will be allowed to row up to 30 minutes per day during the Iditarow. Each rower must take two mandatory days of rest, one of which must be Sunday March 11th.

You don't have to be a member of the Rez. You don't have to have rowed or used an erg before. You just have to want to have some good fun and good exercise.

IDITAROW 2011: a look back

We started out the week asking, "Can we beat the real dogs to Nome?" The Iditarowers responded, "no sweat."

Late Sunday afternoon after eight days on the trail, the Iditarowing dogs beat the real dogs in the quest to travel 1131 miles to Nome.

The team with the most meters was Rowing Rowgue, followed closely by the Fab Four and Rowing Fuels. The top all-female team was A Long Row to Hoe, followed by Doc's Canines and Chandalar Rowbuts.

Top meters rowed by any dog was by Rolf Bardarson, followed by JC Petrosius and Kent Berklund. Top female dog was Amber St. Amand followed by Sarah Fink and Brooke Degnan.
